News 3rd August 2022

Dear All

Upcoming Sessions
Every Friday with slots at 10, 11 and 12 and every Tuesday morning with slots at 10 and 11. The Tuesday session is ideal for those who prefer it a bit quieter or want a greater choice of cycles and for groups who come together. If you’ve not yet booked a slot (for Tuesdays or Fridays), please email Jennifer@wfaoxford.org. Please remember that a consent form needs to be submitted online for any new participants at the latest by midday the day before (together with online payment – £3 per session).  Participants will not be allowed to cycle if a consent form has not been submitted.

Bike donations
We have acquired several bikes from the Council’s Abandoned Vehicle Officer and our mechanics are busy re-furbishing them (let us know if you’d like to help). Active Oxfordshire are also keen to help Oxford Community Action get a large group of 8-15 year olds in the Flo’s Park area cycling and are on the look out for suitable bikes. If you’ve got any spare bikes you’d like to donate, we can pass them on for you.

Catering
As infection rates are falling again, we will be re-introducing the catering table – but please respect those who need to be extra vigilant and give them plently of space.

Volunteers
We are keen to expand our team of volunteers, especially for our new Tuesday sessions.  If you can spare an hour or two whether to help get the cycles out, help participants try out different cycles or help put cycles away at the end of the session – all help is very welcome!. If you’d like more information, please contact Jennifer or Steve (07764 950685 or 07736 069632). There is also info on our website.

Jennifer and Steve are also helping find ways that all the inclusive cycling centres in the UK (there are over 160!)) can communicate with each other to share ideas and good practice.  If anyone has experience with creating WordPress websites and/or discussion boards – we’d love to here from you (whether voluntary or paid).

 Covid
Although rates have fallen a bit, please continue to be careful. We recommend wearing masks when in close proximity and maintaining a safe distance when chatting. Please don’t some to a session if you have any symptoms (eg runny nose, sore throat, headache, fatigue etc) or if you or someone in your household has Covid or tested positive in the last 7-10 days. Whilst for many the symptoms may be relatively mild, the large number of infections mean that the number of people being hospitalized is increasing and many of our participants are vulnerable so please take care, Please use the hand sanitiser on arrival and, if our volunteers are busy, please help sanitise the cycles between users.

Please spread the word about our new Tuesday sessions – both to participants and potential volunteers.
