Lots of cycling again next week – sessions are getting busier as we approach summer. If you’ve not yet booked a slot for this week, please email Jennifer@wfaoxford.org no later than midday on Thursday.
Please also get your bookings in early for 1 July (see below)
Our e-assist cyclles continue to be popular.. The electric assistance operates up to about 15mph. This is faster than most of the other people cycling around the track so please may we ask users to use only the lower levels of assistance so they do not cycle much faster than other people on the track. This helps keep it safer for everyone and also means that the battery lasts longer – if its used on the high setting all the time it sometimes runs out before the end of the session. We’re aiming to order a e-kit so we can add electric assist to one of the tricycles (although it may nt be received for a few months)
Diary entry for Friday 1 July.
As mentioned last week,we are very excited that Wheels for All Oxford and Iconic Cycling will be working in partnership to ensure the Bike Oxford weekend will be a fully inclusive sportive event. The first in the UK (as far as we know!!).
The inclusive element of the event will take place on Friday 1st July 2022 at the Horspath Athletics track in a safe traffic free environment.
There will be medals for everyone achieving their own personal goal and we hope to provide some catering. Many more people are likely to attend (in hourly sessiions at 10, 11, 12 and 1) so we encourage our regulars to make sure their slot is booked before its opened up to a wider audience. The wonderful Cowley Road Condors cycling club will also be helping ensure we have lots of volunteers on hand.
Many people appear to be more relaxed about Covid but Government guidelines continue to advise that “it is particularly important that a person with symptoms of a respiratory infection, such as COVID-19, avoids close contact with people whose immune system means that they are at higher risk of serious illness. If a person has tested positive for COVID-19 they should avoid those people who are at higher risk of serious illness for a 10-day period.” Many of our participants are vulnerable, so please do not attend a WFA session if you think you might be infected or if you have had recent close contact with someone, eg in your household, who has tested positive or has any cold-like symptoms. Hand sanitiser is provided on the reception desk and surface cleaner on the table by the entrance to the track. Please help yourself to wipe down bikes before/after use if our volunteers are busy with other participants. Cleaning materials are also provided near the toilet. We look forward to seeing many of you on Friday.
