Newsletter – 1st June 2022

Dear All

Lots of things to cover in this week’s newsletter so please read on:

Friday 3 June – sessions at 10, 11 and 12 as usual. The 12 midday session is still free of charge (it’s also quieter, more choice of cycles and more 1-on-1 attention).  Friday is the Platinum Jubilee bank holiday so we will be having a Platinum Jubilee theme – so dress up if you wish, bring your flags or whatever else you wish to celebrate with.  We will be providing tea and coffee and you’re welcome to bring you own refreshments, sandwiches etc – and feel free to have your own picnic once you’ve finished cycling.

This week is also Volunteer Week so its a great opportunity to thank all our wonderful volunteers.  They do a marvellous job and we get lots of feedback telling us how friendly and helpful they are – so a very big THANK YOU to you all.  Many of them are very partial to biscuits to help keep their energy up during a session….

If you’ve not yet booked a slot for this week, please email Jennifer@wfaoxford.org no later than midday on Thursday.

Friday 1 July – as mentioned before, we’ll be running an extra special inclusive session in conjunction with Bike Oxford – medals for everyone achieving their own personal challenge – and more refreshments!  Please get your bookings in as we’ll start to publicise the event to a wider audience next week.

And another BIG ANNOUNCEMENT – we’re going to start running Tuesday sessions.  These will start on Tuesday 5 July.  We’ll run slots at 10am and 11am to start with.  Jennifer will be taking bookings for these as usual, so please let her know if you want to book a slot.  Some of our existing leaders and volunteers will be helping on some Tuesdays but we’d love to invite new volunteers to come and help.  As usual, it’s a flexible arrangement – volunteers are welcome to help whichever days they are available and for all or part of the morning – whatever is convenient for them.  Let us know if you are interested!

As some of you know, our friends at the Windrush Bike Project are now running Wheels for All sessions in Witney every Saturday (11-1pm for ages 2-16 and 1-2pm is for 16+).  They are based at a school in Witney so in the school holidays they will also run sessions for 16+ from 10am-12pm. They also hope to run a session on Wednesdays from 2pm-3pm in term time by arrangement for specific organisations.

Please note that Wheels for All Oxford and Wheels for All Witney are different organisations and for the Witney sessions you need to contact Brigitte at the Windrush Bike Project (wfa@windrushbikeproject.uk).

Many people are more relaxed about Covid but Government guidelines continue to advise caution when in close proximity to anyone who may be at higher risk of becoming seriously ill.  Many of our participants are vulnerable, so please do not attend a WFA session if you think you might be infected or if you have had recent close contact with someone, eg in your household, who has Covid-19. Possible symptoms include runny nose, sore throat, headache and fatigue.

Hand sanitiser is provided on the reception desk and surface cleaner on the table by the entrance to the track.  Please help yourself to wipe down bikes before/after use if our volunteers are busy with other participants.  Cleaning materials are also provided near the toilet.

We had another glorious Friday last week so let’s hope for more sunny weather –  although we will, of course, run our sessions whatever the weather (unless there is a weather warning that would make it unsafe to cycle).

Happy cycling!
